Comfort and Your Position in Christ…(and the winner is…)

girl with berry

Last night my two year old climbed into my bed at 1am. His little knees poked into my side and he laid across half of his chubby body across my pillow. He lays there so confident of his position in my life: son, beloved, accepted, blessed, honored, favored, and it’s my arms that comfort him.

I remember warm summer days at my grandparents house picking sun-kissed berries and eating Gravenstein apples right off the tree. We’d run free on those three big grassy acres set on the beach. We’d fill an old red dinghy full of water and let it heat in the sun then jump in and splash onto our tummies to cool off.

The two beloved St. Bernard’s would follow us to the beach and we’d come home with handfuls of shells, agates and sometimes clay babies.

And as the sun went down, I’d lay in bed and feel the salty sea air blow through the open window and across my face. The stillness of the night would calm me.

Sometimes I couldn’t sleep and would crawl into my grandparents bed and poke them with my knees and take up half their pillow. They didn’t mind. I felt comfort. I was secure in my position as a granddaughter.

The comfort we’ve felt becomes the comfort we give.

But if we have more walls up around our hearts than comfort to give?

We find our position in the arms of Jesus, who comforts, blesses, loves, forgives, and raises us up and seats us at His right hand.

We do not have to try. We do not earn this position.

He says He is the vine and we are the branches. We don’t need to try to be a branch, we just are.

So here are some declarations of our position in Christ for a joy-filled Friday.

Try speaking it over yourself. Write it on a note and place it on your bathroom mirror to remember and declare who you are.

Five Minute Friday is a feature over at Lisa-Jo Bakers TALES FROM A GYPSY MAMA blog.

So, let’s do this thing. Let’s write.

Set your timer, clear your head, for five minutes of free writing without worrying about getting it right.

Image

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

 AND THE WINNER IS….

I enjoyed reading everyone’s God-sized dreams so much. It really blessed me and I wish I could give the book to several people. But, there was one person who really stuck out to me because she is a single gal loving Jesus and pursuing her dream…even going on the mission field this summer….and I can relate to her so much because I was once just like her. So, the book goes to http://www.masterpieceofgrace.wordpress.com. Go check out her blog and give her some blog love!

  1. ooooh loved the bit about walls up around our hearts… makes it real hard to recieve comfort… that is so powerful… what a good challenge to be vulnerable and open to those around us…

so glad for the postition we have in christ – loved unconditonally, accepted unreseveredly…

    bless ya, claire

    • So true, our position justifies us. How else do we open up? I’d be a wrecked mess without grace. 🙂 But I’m sure many of us would if we were honest. I just love your comments…always so thoughtful and deep. I think this must be one of the reasons I love your blog so much…deep and thoughtful and beautiful words…always. Blessings!

  2. I love the line, “The comfort we’ve felt becomes the comfort we give.” and I love how you speak to the heart that never received that comfort with truth from the word. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I am so grateful for this post. Thank you so much. I’m gonna share this with my young people in church because today we were sharing with them concerning their position in Christ. God bless your sweet soul.

  4. Truly, “from His fullness [v. 14] we have all received, grace upon grace.” John 1:16 (English Standard Version). The world has no idea how rich believers are, not that it cares, but we so often forget it ourselves. Thank you for the reminder.

    • Yes, that is so true…so rich… And the Bible says to “forget not all his benefits.” We are rich, blessed, and surrender costs everything, but we gain even more.

  5. Awesome promises that you shared…I just love this! Beautiful post! 🙂 And I just read your bio under your picture. I think we really could be sisters…I’m totally that pot-of-coffee, waaaay too much creamer, girl! How I wish we could share that pot of coffee in real life…maybe someday! Wouldn’t that be fun?! (Though we’d probably have to brew a second pot.) 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!

    • I know..I’ve thought the same thing! And, when I read your post about how you moved to Peru and all that stuff….really, we could be sisters. Can’t wait to keep reading your blog….and all the writing and books you will do in the future. 🙂 I’m a supporter. Bless you, friend!

  6. Aaaah, ‘The comfort we’ve felt becomes the comfort we give.’ This is so true. God leads us by example – and a great example Jesus is at that.

Thanks for stopping by my blog & liking my ‘Marry Me For God’s Sake’ post.
I look forward to scoping out your blog. Bless!

  7. Love your post! It is so amazing to think of all that we have because we are IN Christ, Himself…….and to think that He is ALSO in us! Mind boggling and wondrous.
I love His prayer in John 17. It says so much as to the relationship of oneness that we have entered into – a relationship that has existed in the Trinity before time. We are now wrapped up in THAT! Wow…..
